CONTRACTORS GUIDE Section 5 - FLAT ROOF REPAIR
AND COATING

ROOF TYPE:

Hot mopped flood coat or mineral surfaced 90# on 2 to 5 Ply BUR, Hot/Cold applied - uncoated.

PRODUCTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:

Water ponding conditions must be resolved if the standing water exceeds 3/4". Install a roof drain or build up the area before coating the roof.

1. The first step is to make sure that 100% of the substrate is suitable for "general - type" repairs and coating. Inspect blisters and wrinkles and look for burn-out and weakened decking. If any condition is severe or widespread, A decision must be made regarding the most logical choice between roof replacement or major repair and coating.

2. If the damage is not as severe or evident described in #1, but the BUR is leaking through or is blistered, there is a possibility of moisture beneath the BUR surface and a vapor vent is highly recommended. Secure the vent flange with a 3 course repair and ventilate all layers of the BUR to the roof decking.

3. On flood coated surfaces, alligatoring is common. Trowel applied POLAR CAP PLASTIC CEMENT (PC-107) can be used to "smooth out" alligatoring prior to coating.

4. Repair or reinforce seams, stacks, vents, and flashings using the 3 course repair (see section 3).

5. Following the 3 course repair, coat the entire roof 3 times.

lst coat at 1 1/2 gal per 100 square feet
2nd coat at 3/4 gal per 100 square feet
3rd coat at 3/4 gal per 100 square feet

Allow 6 to 24 hours cure time between coats (see section 11-1)

6. Apply an additional coat of POLAR CAP PREMIUM (PCP-108) over the ponding areas.

IMPORTANT - CURE TIME IS AFFECTED BY WEATHER CONDITIONS
(SEE SECTION 11-1)
